In April of this year I will have been the Headteacher of Pooltown for 3 years. It is a school that I am exceptionally proud to be Headteacher of. The staff at Pooltown are committed to giving the children in their care the best education possible. Standards over the last three years have risen significantly, so much so that Pooltown has had the biggest percentage increase of the Key Stage 2 SATS results since this period in the whole of Cheshire. We believe in encouraging and supporting every child to their fullest, giving them the opportunity to make significant improvement in the four years they spend in our care. Literacy and Mathematics are vital to a child's education, and because of our believe in this, we teach the children in ability sets which enables us to teach to the children's needs.. We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which is supported and taught through I.C.T. Each classroom has at least one computer which is connected to the Internet. We have many children who also have great talents in other areas of the curriculum. As a school we offer after school clubs such as football, cross country, art, homework and Year 3 choir. We also have an excellent choir of 50 children who in the last 2 years have sung for the Mayor and Her Majesty The Queen at the opening of Cheshire Oaks. Our Chair of Governors, Mr. Martin Nield says "Pooltown School is about children, about helping them to develop and to reach their full potential. Whilst we place a great deal of importance upon academic results, we are just as keen to ensure that other skills are recognised and developed fully, whether skills are in art, drama, sport or singing." In the school's latest Ofsted inspection the inspectors saw our school as "an attractive and stimulating place to work, where pupils' personal development is very well provided for; they are keen to come to school and have positive attitudes to learning. Within the school there is good teaching of literacy and numeracy and pupils make good progress in these aspects of their learning." We meet regularly with staff from Atherton Infant School, our feeder school, where most of our children come from. If any parents are interested in sending their children to Pooltown please don't hesitate to contact me at the school and an appointment can be made to show you around.
